2018: A Year In Review

Another year is about to come to an end and what a year it’s been. 2018 has been the Year of Growth for Third Eye Games and it’s brought a lot of excitement to so many projects we’re working on as well as some growing pains that will make us better heading into 2019. Plus I was able to attend so many great conventions this year, from Queen City Conquest in Buffalo, NY to the great and powerful GenCon! It was a fantastic opportunity to meet fans, play some games, and accept an ENnie award for the Pip System Corebook. So I wanted to take a moment to share what we’ve been working on this past year and what it will mean in the months to come. Plus I’d like to offer some new information on our upcoming Oracles GM support program but let’s save that for dessert.

First, I want to thank each and every one of you who supported us this past year by purchasing our games, backing our Kickstarters, sharing them on social media, and for just plain being awesome. Without you, none of this would be possible and it’s the loyalty and excitement of our fans that keep us motivated to bring you bigger and better stuff. You’re awesome!

Kickstarter Explosion!

This year saw us explode on Kickstarter with H.P. Lovecraft Preparatory School (HPL Prep) and Part-Time Gods Second Edition becoming our most successful crowdfunding projects to date. PTG2E alone brought in more than $30,000 and opened up an upcoming product line for the Second Edition of your favourite deities’ exploits. I’m happy to report that both projects have just wrapped up their final layouts and will soon be in backers’ hands (PDF first, of course, while we await proofs for all physical copies).

With bigger budgets come bigger projects and we have had the pleasure of working with so many fantastic freelancers who have delivered on their deadlines and gave us some amazing content to work with. As we move forward with a higher bar of achievement to aim for, we’ve been able to address some weaknesses in our production process and have made adjustments for the future.

Hot New Releases

There were some great new games, expansions, and supplements released this year, such as…

  • AMP: Year Four – The ongoing saga of the AMPs and their struggles continued for the AMP: Year One RPG with an alien invasion. This new book (available now in our online store) provides a 2018 timeline, rules of magic and new AMP powers based on magic, as well as a new character type. Which begs the question… will the Earth survive long enough to see Year Five?

  • Part-Time Gods Second Edition – While we’re still waiting on proofs for our print copies of PTG2E, I’m so happy we were able to release an early version the core rulebook’s PDF. Everything has changed for our gods, both narratively and mechanically, in this brand new take on the world of divine power and mortal problems in what is now our biggest core rulebook… so far.

  • Pip System Primer – Thanks to our patrons and the Pip System team lead by Crystal Mazur, we’ve released four digital issues of the Pip System Primer to add elements of fantasy, noir, aliens, and dinosaurs to your games. Early next year, we’ll be launching the first Pip System Primer Annual in print and PDF with everything from these first four issues. You can also become a patron at Patreon.com and vote on future issue themes and receive advanced copies.

What’s In Store for 2019?

As I mentioned before, this year was an eye opening experience that saw my 1-person operation expand into a small team of passionate and dedicated people. Together, they have helped me take Third Eye Games into ambitious new directions and also kept me in line when I needed to bring it down a notch. Along the way, we did encounter some hiccups in the production of numerous projects in our queue and I do want to apologize for the delays anyone has experienced. With these issues fixed and out of the way, there’s going to be a lot of new releases in the coming months, from the full release of HPL Prep, an updated edition of API: Canada, the first Pip System Primer Annual, and more. Plus we’re also going to launch an exciting new program for all you GMs out there.

The Oracles Program is our brand new GM support program built to create a network for everyone running 3EG games anywhere in the world. In addition to providing unique content available only to Oracles members, such as our 3-part “long con” adventure for Part-Time Gods Second Edition and exclusive Oracles t-shirts, this is also going to a resource for members to learn more about these games and connect with designers and other team members to create the best experience possible. By supporting the GMs who represent us at every table, real or virtual, we can reach new players and create a community that will help grow our reputation. Because the more people play our games, the more stores we’ll be able to access.

Oh, and membership will be free.

We’ll be launching an early bird sign-up for the Oracles Program in January 2019 and the official launch is set for March 4, 2019 (also known as GM’s Day) with our exclusive 3-part PTG2E adventure. You can read more about this program in the coming weeks as we put the finishing touches on the sign-up component of the program.

Once again, thanks to everyone who helped make 2018 a great year and a Happy New Year in 2019!
