Finding Focus Through Art (Sinister RPG)

Home / Blog / Finding Focus Through Art (Sinister RPG)

Sinister RPG is the newest in the line of games developed for Third Eye Games. For this one, you get to come along for the ride.

So, this will be a shorter post, but I’m not going to leave you all hanging on Sinister Friday (thanks Sean, that seems to have stuck)! With me recovering from DragonCon still and my deadlines for Wu Xing: Land of Seed and Blossom dangling overhead, the amount of time i’ve been able to spend writing Sinister has been lessened.

But i did a lot of brainstorming!

Right now, I’ve been thinking more and more about the setting, splitting up the nations into pieces, matching what i think is complementary tech and ideology to each and trying to figure out how all of it will play out mechanically. As I do all the brainstorming, this is the time when i begin to look at art for a lot of my inspiration. Trying to figure out what artistic direction you want to go in early on is a godsend when it comes time to write, because you already have a picture in your mind to describe to your audience.

I’m lucky to have met a very talented artist named David Bednar at GenCon and we’ve been working together to get some good sketches up and running. I’ve decided that, sticking true to its roots, Sinister will have an anime-ish style, but much darker, grittier and, well, sinister. To that effect, I’m going to share one with you so you can see what i’m seeing. Nothing’s final right now, as I’m still piecing together the setting itself, but art like this can’t help but inspire.

More to come next week when i have more time to get ideas written down.
